This Indenture made the third day of October one thousand seven hundred and sixty eight between Joseph Higginbotham in the County of Amherst of the one part and Cornelius Campbell of the County of Albemarle of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Joseph Higginbotham for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Cornelius Campbell, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath bargained sold, aliened, enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain, sell, enfeoff and confirm unto the said Cornelius Campbell and his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land in the said County of Amherst containing ninety six acres of land granted to the said Joseph Higginbotham by Patent dated July the tenth one thousand seven hundred and sixty six, beginning at a White Oak corner of Adam Reids on the south side of Pedlar River and running thence on new lines due north seventy poles to a pine, north fifty degrees west one hundred and ten poles to a White Oak, due west thirty poles to a Spanish Oak, south sixty seven degrees west at fifty six poles a branch ninety six poles to a Chestnut, south thirty four degrees east fifty nine poles to a Red Oak, due east at twelve poles Pedlar River as aforesaid twenty six poles to a Chestnut Oak, north sixty two degrees east thirty four poles to pointers, south twelve degrees east fifty six poles to a Chestnut, south sixty five degrees east thirty two poles to pointers and due east twenty poles crossing Pedlar River aforesaid to the beginning. To have and to hold the said ninety six acres of land together with all houses, fences, woods, waters and other appurtenances thereunto belonging or any wise appertaining and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainder thereof and of every part and parcel thereof unto the said Cornelius Campbell to the only use and behoof of him the said Cornelius Campbell and his heirs and assigns forever and the said Joseph Higginbotham for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant and agree with the said Cornelius Campbell the above sold land and promises to warrant and forever defend by these presents unto him the said Cornelius Campbell and his heirs and assigns forever, against the claim and demand of any person whatsoever. In witness whereof the said Joseph Higginbotham have hereunto set his hand and seal the day above written.

At a Court held for Amherst County at the Courthouse the third day of October 1768 this Indenture and the Memorandum and receipt endorsed were acknowledged by Joseph Higginbotham and Hannah his wife and ordered to be recorded, and the said Hannah being first privily examined as the law directs voluntarily relinquished her rights of dower in the estate conveyed by this Indenture.
