On the morning of the 19th instant, Mrs. Sophia W. Higinbothom, in the 60th year of her age, wife of the late Ralph Higinbothom.

Her funeral will take place this (Friday) afternoon, at 5 o'clock, from the residence of her son-in-law, (John B. Egerton, Esq.) No. 143 St. Paul street. The friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend, without further notice.

Higinbothom - At his residence in Ellicott City, on the 12th inst., John Higinbothom, son of the late Ralph Higinbothom, in the 57th year of his age.

Death of a Music Teacher - Prof. Edward Heginbotham, a music teacher, died yesterday, after a long illness, from cancer, at his home, No. 483 North Gay street, in his 65th year. He was a native of Baltimore, and was formerly a teacher of music in the public schools. He was also choir leader in several churches at different times.

Frank C. Higinbotham Sr., for eleven years during Governor Ritchie's administration a magistrate at Ellicott City, died early yesterday at St. Agnes' Hospital. In failing health for the last four years, Mr. Higinbotham contracted pneumonia a week ago. He was 81 years old.

Mr. Higinbotham was born in Baltimore, the son of John B. and Frances Clagett Higinbotham. All his life he was interested in politics. In the 90s he held a post as a gauger with the Internal Revenue Department. For about thirty years he conducted a cooperage business in Howard county, giving it up during the World War.

His wife, Mrs. Susan Helcamp Higinbotham, died ten years ago. He is survived by two sons, Dulaney C. Higinbotham, attorney, of Bel Air, and Frank C. Higinbotham Jr., of Ellicott City, and two daughters, Mrs. Russell J. Fuccy, of Weston, W. Va., and Mrs. Anita H. Roache, of Ellicott City. There are six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. tomorrow at the residence in Ellicott City. They will be conducted by the Rev. J.A. Velasco, rector of St. Peter's Protestant Episcopal Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Miss Isabella Higinbothom, a life-long resident of Baltimore, died yesterday afternoon at a Baltimore nursing home after an illness of two years. She was 80.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday at an Elliott City funeral parlor. Burial will be in the Loudon Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Fairmont, W. Va., a son of the late James and Mary (Work) Higinbotham.

Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Eva (Everett) Higinbotham, is a daughter, Mrs. Edward Bagdonis, Presque Isle, Maine; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Sidney Calwell, Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Robert Hughes, Shinnston, W. Va.; two brothers, Samuel, Fairmont, and Fred, Shinnston; three sisters, Mrs. Ella West, and Mrs. Laura Holmes, both of Fairmont, and Mrs. Orville Nixon, Watson, W. Va.; and three grandchildren.

Rockville, MD.-Army Spec. 4 Robert M. Higginbotham, who was named the outstanding member of the 1967 graduating class at the University of Maryland, was killed in action in

Vietnam

last week, the Defense Department announced Thursday.

The soldier’s father, Charles Higginbotham of Rockville, termed his son’s death “a complete and tragic waste. His life has gone for nothing in a senseless military adventure.

“I’ve been a longtime Army reservist,” the father said, “and I’d defend my country to the last drop of blood in my body. And my son would have, too. But his loss over there in a senseless war, a foolish military adventure, is a total waste.”

The Pentagon reported that Specialist Higginbotham died May 14 when the armored personnel carrier he was driving was it by enemy rocket fire near Da Nang.

The father said his son was a promising theoretical mathematician who left for

“feeling he was never coming back.”

Specialist Higginbotham, who was born in Washington and lived in the metropolitan area most of his life, was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Md.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Higginbotham, of 14416 Pecan Drive, Rockville; a sister, Pamela, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Ida Higginbotham, of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Mrs. Florence Evart, of Santa Rosa, Calif.

Frank Higginbotham, 65, a management system division employee of the Federal Aviation Administration, died Wednesday after a heart attack at a private club. He lived at 6603 44th Ave., University Park, Maryland.
Mr. Higginbotham had lectured in accounting 16 years at George Washington University. He formerly was budget director of the American Automobile Association and had been controller for the Government Printing Office in 1961-1967 before transferring to FAA.
In 1967-68, he was an assistant national vice-president of the Federal Government Accountants Association. He also belonged to other professional organizations and the International Christian Leadership organization.
Mr. Higginbotham was born in Indiana, received a B. S. and M. A. degrees from the University of Illinois.

John H. Hickenbottom, 80, of 1004 Columbia Road, died Wednesday Morning at the Washington County Hospital.

Born in Boston, Ohio, he was a son of David and Belle DeVol Hickenbottom. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Barnesville, Ohio.

He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Findley of Hagerstown, Mrs. Carolyn Campbell of Athens, Ohio, and Mrs. Dorothy Motter of Albuquerque, N. M.; and sons, Everett Hickenbottom and Paul Hickenbottom, both of Barnesville.

Mrs. Alice May Coleman Zahn, formerly of Baltimore, died at the Maryland Odd Fellows Home, Frederick, MD, where she had been a guest since September, 1964. Alice May was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick and the Queen Ester Rebekah Lodge #2, Baltimore. She was a nurse in the Baltimore area for many years.

Higginbottom - On February 13, 1984, Ruth M. (nee Macreadie), beloved wife of Harold J. Higginbottom, dear aunt of W. Donald Macreadie and Harold J. Higginbottom, Jr.

Services for Paul M. Higinbothom, who practiced corporate and insurance law in Baltimore for about 50 years, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld funeral establishment, 6500 York Road.

Mr. Higinbothom died Tuesday at his home in the 5400 block of Springlake Way after a long illness. He was 89.

Mr.. Higinbothom, who retired from practice nearly 10 years ago, served as president of the Baltimore City Bar Association and was a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

He served in the Army in a Johns Hopkins Hospital unit in France during World War I and during World War II was a lieutenant colonel in the Maryland State Guard that replaced the National Guard after the National Guard was called into federal service.

Fond of travel and photography, he was a member of the Baltimore Country Club and the University Club.

A member of the Composite Lodge of the Masons, he also belonged to the Scottish Rite and Boumi Temple, where he held the 17th oldest membership.

He is survived by his wife, the former A. Mildred Bartholomee; a daughter, Margaret E. Kraus of Baltimore; two sons, William C. Higinbothom of Riderwood and John P. Higinbothom of Towson; and three grandchildren.

Betty "Kit" Higinbothom Conklin, a 1946 graduate of Cantonsville High School, died May 25 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Miss Conklin, 59, lived in Baltimore until 1968, when she moved to Scottsdale. After her move, she was an escrow officer for the Security Title Co. and attended the Glass & Garden Church.

Miss Conklin is survived by her mother, Margaret Higinbothom, and an uncle, Edward Higinbothom, also of Cantonsville.

The family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Miss Conklin's memory.

Helen F. Shores, 73, a resident of Annapolis for 50 years, died Sunday at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The cause of death was not available.

Mrs. Shores was born and educated in Fairmont, W. Va. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and crafts.

Survivors include three sons, Aubrey Alan Shores of Riva, Stanley Edward Shores of Annapolis and Air Force Capt. Robert Claude Shores of Goldsboro, N.C.; one sister, Wanda Sapp of Fairmont, W.Va.; one brother, Jimmie Higginbotham of Gary, Ohio; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

On September 28, 1994, Etta E. (nee Hickenbotham), of Elkridge, beloved wife of the late John S. Hnat, devoted mother of Raymond A. and Granville Hnat, loving grandmother of Doris Willett, David Hnat and Pamela Cooper. Also survived by seven grandchildren.

Retired Harford County Circuit Judge Edward D. Higinbothom died Sunday after a heart attack at his Bel Air home. He was 81.

Judge Higinbothom served on the Circuit Court from 1974 until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he occasionally sat on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, the Maryland Court of Appeals and the Circuit Courts in several counties.

Judge William O. Carr, the administrative judge in Harford County, described him as "a truly outstanding judge who was highly respected by both judges and lawyers."

He also said that in addition to his other work on the bench, "Judge Higinbothom was the Orphan's Court for Harford County."

He explained that Orphan's Court in the county was abolished and its work was transferred to the Circuit Court the same year Judge Higinbothom, an expert on probate and testamentary law, joined the bench.

Born in Ellicott City but raised in Bel Air, Judge Higinbothom was educated at St. Margaret's School, Loyola High School, Loyola College and the University of Maryland law school. He graduated from college in 1934. He completed law school and was admitted to the bar in 1938.

Before starting to practice law in Bel Air, he taught at Loyola High and worked as a reporter for The Bel Air Times.

Before becoming a judge, he served as a lawyer for and a member of the board of Forest Hill State Bank.

An usher at St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church since age 18, he helped do the legal work for the establishment of the John Carroll School and served on its board.

He was the recipient of many awards from the Bel Air Rotary Club, which made him a life member last year.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today at St. Margaret's Church in Bel Air.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Dorothy Blevins; three sons, Michael Higinbothom of Street and Joseph Higinbothom and Andrew Higinbothom, both of Bel Air; a daughter, Anne Peterson of Harpers Ferry, W. Va.; a brother, John B. Higinbothom of Baltimore; a sister, Margaret H. James of Havre de Grace; and four grandchildren.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Eva Eula Everett Higinbotham, 96, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Mechanicsburg. The Rev. Leland Higginbotham, a former pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Towson who was a powerful voice in the anti-war and civil rights movement of the 1960s, died Monday of leukemia at his Annapolis home. He was 84.

"He was a man who brought an incredible intensity, vigor and intelligence to whatever he did," said the Rev. John E. Roberts, a friend of more than 40 years, who retired as pastor of Woodbrook Baptist Church in North Baltimore.

"Higgie had an incredibly strong sense of justice and was very outspoken on the Vietnam War and civil rights," said the Rev. Frederick K. Weimert, who became pastor of Calvary after Mr. Higginbotham's retirement in 1981. Mr. Higginbotham joined with the Berrigan brothers and Rabbi Jacob B Agus of Beth el Congregation in those movements.

Mr. Higginbotham was born in Baton Rouge, La., and raised in Washington, where he graduated from high school in 1937. He earned a bachelors degree in English from the Univeristy of Richmond in 1942, and a master's in divinity from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y., in 1945. He studied clinical pastoral care at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington and did post-graduate work at Case Western Reserve University.

While an undergraduate at the University of Richmond, he fell in love with a classmate, the former Ethne Crowder Flanagan, whom he married in 1943.

Mr. Higginbotham was an inventor during his college days. He perfected an incubator - used by the Medical College of Virginia and several other medical schools - that automatically fed and water premature baby chicks. He later sold his Virginia Incubator to pay his divinity school tuition.

He began his pastoral career in 1945 as assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. in 1952, he was named pastor of the First Baptist Church in Highstown, N.J. He remained there until 1955, when he went to Calvary Baptist Church in Towson, which was heavily in debt.

Mr. Higginbotham said in his unpublished autobiographical notes that his "greatest joy and achievement" was making the church debt free and expanding its congregation to more than 500 members. He also built a Sunday school building, and established inner-city missions and tutorial programs.

"When I came there were more members in the choir than the congregation." he wrote.

Mr. Higginbotham's social activism began when he led an effort that defeated a Baltimore County referendum that called for students attending private schools to be transported by bust a taxpayers' expense.

He also persuaded Baltimore Baptist ministers to adopt a statement rejecting and interpretation of the Bible that justified racial prejudice.

But it was the Vietnam War that galvanized Mr. .Higginbotham, who held public meetings on the war in his church on Sunday evenings.

He was a member of the Baltimore Committee of Clergy and Laymen Concerned About Vietnam. He served as president of the Baltimore Pastor Conference and the Clergy Brotherhood - made up of Protestants, Roman Catholics and Jews - as well as chairman of the special committee on legislation for the Maryland Council of Churches.

In 1966, Mr. Higginbotham was joined by the Rev. Phillip F. Berrigan, Robert Z. Alpern, and other members of the Baltimore Interfaith Peace Mission for a two-hour interview with then Secretary of State Dean Rusk on the Vietnam War.

Unimpressed with the secretary's comments and views on the war, Mr. Higginbotham wrote, "Mr. Rusk is a hawk in the truest sense of the word."

A longtime member of Mr. Higginbotham's congregation was Harris Glenn Milstead, better known as Divine, the transvestite film star, whom he had known since he was a youngster.

At his funeral in 1988, Mr. Higginbotham said, "Glenn was born before civil rights, or women's rights...God doesn't want people created out of a Xerox machine...the tragedy is that Glenn was cut off right at the point of becoming who he really was, and the world will never see how that flower could have unfolded."

When a conservative West Coast radio commentator called and asked how he could take part in Devine's funeral, Higgie said, "How could I not do this? I baptized that young man," Mr. Weimert said, "One thing about him, he was never afraid or intimidated by people."

Mr. Higginbotham enjoyed sailing aboard his 32-foot sailboat, the Trilogy, gardening, reading and looking at the stars through his telescope.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 at Calvary Baptist Church, 120 W. Pennsylvania Ave., in Towson.

Besides his wife, Mr. Higginbotham is survived by son, Robert L. Higginbotham of Annapolis; a daughter, Ethne Lee Turowski of Annapolis; and three grandchildren.

On June 6, 2004, Maxene W. Higginbotham, loving sister of Ruth Robinson and her husband Lawrence Robinson and Gwendolyn Seaborne; dear aunt to Dr. Shawn Robinson and Hildreth Robinson. Also survived by other nieces and nephews.

Easton - Roberta MacRae Higginbottom of Easton died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006 at her home. She was 87.

Born Dec. 16, 1918, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Eva Milne MacRae. She graduated with honors from Hunter High School in New York. Encouraged by her English teacher, she applied to Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and was admitted on scholarship. While a student at Smith College, she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated with honors in 1939. She then took a position at Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., where in 1941 she earned her master's degree in xoology. She married Arthur R. Higginbottom June 7, 1941, in Peterbourough, N.M. The Higginbottoms moved toTunis Mills in 1950 and became members of All Faith Chapel where, during the 100-year celebration of the chapel, she edited "The Miles River Parish 100th Anniversary" book. Always involved in the activities of the church, she served for one term as president of the E.C.W.

For 19 years, Mrs. Higginbottom taught biology at Easton High School, where she helped to organize the J. Willard Davis Chapter of the National Honor Society. She was a charter member of Christ Church in Easton, she helped organize its first kindergarten school along with her husband, published the "Church Scroll", a monthly church newsletter.

Mrs. Higginbottom was a wonderful wife and mother who encouraged her husband in his career as an educator, and stimulated her children to achieve their goals. Her children knew she loved them and they knew she was their guide, friend and mother whose love and tender care would always be a great part of their lives.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Higginbottom is survived by four children, Pamela Lee Carey and her husband Hugh of Towson, Dr. Phillip A. Higginbottom and his wife, Terry, of Leucadia, Calif., Dr. Mark A. Higginbottom and his wife Rhonda of Easton, and Claudia Parsons and her husband Richard of West Chester, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Kristin Schulze, Lindsey Bean, Bradley Carey, Heidi Higginbottom, Dr. Ryan Higginbottom, Dr. Erik Higginbottom, Kyle Higginbottom, Andrew Parsons, and Lisa Parsons; and one nephew, Robert Heins of Melbourne Beach, Fla.

Arthur R. Higginbottom, of Tunis Mills, MD, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD at the age of 97. Born November 20, 1909 in Millbury, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Harry and Florence Higginbottom. After attending the Millbury schools, he graduated from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics (1932) and a Masters Degree (1941). During the summers of his college years, he directed the Herald Tribune Fresh Air Fund camp on the Hudson River. Arthur met the love of his life, the late Roberta MacRae Higginbottom, at the Tribune office in New York and they were married for 65 years.

During the second World War Arthur taught celestial navigation as a lieutenant in the Navy and was honorably discharged in Chincoteague, Virginia. He then accepted a teaching position in Talbot County became Supervisor of Instruction and finished 31 years of dedication to Talbot County education as Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

Community involvement was always a major focus for Arthur. He devoted his leadership skills and energy to numerous local organizations including Easton Concert Association, Talbot Music Club, Maryland Retired Teachers Association, Talbot Country Club, Easton Rotary Club. During his six years as president of the Talbot County YMCA he was instrumental in building community support for the construction of the current facility. He was a member of All Faith Chapel in Tunis Mills where he served faithfully on the Vestry.

Arthur cherished his family and often said that family was the most important thing in life. A loving father and teacher, he was the backbone of his entire family. He is survived by four children: Pamela Carey and her husband Hugh of Towson, Dr. Philip A. Higginbottom and his wife Terry of Leucadia CA, Dr. Mark A. Higginbottom and his wife Rhonda of Easton, and Claudia Parsons and her husband Richard of West Chester PA; nine grandchildren: Kristen Schulze, Lindsey Bean, Bradley Carey, Heidi Higginbottom, Dr. Ryan Higginbottom, Dr. Erik Higginbottom, Kyle Higginbottom, Andrew Parsons and Lisa Parsons: and one sister, Ruth Ellen Higginbottom, of South Yarmouth MA.

On December 25, 2007, F. Robert Higinbotham of Severn, lost his courageous battle with cancer. He is the beloved husband of 30 years to Jean; loving father of William Ray and Linda Parcher; dear grandfather of Emalee, Justin, Jeffrey, and Gregory; and cherished great grandfather of Alexandra. He worked for the National Security Agency over 40 years. "Hig" was on Board of Directors for the Government Employees Benefit Association, and also for Friendship Cemetery; he was on several committees for Severn United Methodist Church, and was also a Show Horse Judge . "Hig" greatly enjoyed singing in the church choir, travelling, gardening, watching the Orioles, and reading. "Hig" will be greatly missed by many.

Mrs. June Quann passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012 with her family by her side at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. Mrs. Quann was born on March 18, 1925 in Pettry, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents George H. Higginbotham and Allie Lilly Shannon Higginbotham; sisters Blanche Shannon Renn, Pearl Shannon Swaggerty, and Lillian Shannon Walters; brother Johnson K. Higginbotham; and beloved sister-in-law Virginia Higginbotham. June was also preceded in death by her husband Amos E. Quann. June moved to La Plata from Colonial Beach, VA in 1959 with her daughter Linda. June married her second husband Amos Quann in August 1959 in Indian Head, MD. Together they had another daughter, Patricia. For more than 30 years, June was a familiar face at County Drug Store in La Plata. She made many friends. She enjoyed her time with the Country Music Square Dancing Club in St. Mary’s County with her dear friend Elwood Cusic. June also loved to play cards and tell jokes. June was an avid gardener and truly loved to watch things grow. Her favorite flowers were pansies, roses, and carnations. June was a kind and gentle soul who adopted stray cats and dogs and gave them a good, loving home. She was particularly fond of dogs and in her later years she enjoyed the company of Charlie, Sara and Jazz. June loved her family and friends and was always willing to help someone in need. She loved spending time with her extended family. One of her greatest joys was studying the Lord’s word with her Tuesday Morning Christ Care Bible Study Group at Grace Lutheran Church. June is survived by her daughter Patricia and husband Steve Tillman of La Plata, MD; daughter Linda and husband Clinton Loeffler of Colonial Beach, VA; step-son Freddie Quann and his wife Dayle of Fredericksburgh, VA; and her favorite niece Venessa Higginbotham Garst of Royersford, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lauren Cusic of La Plata, MD, Jacke Loeffler Mumpower of Stafford, VA; Sheri Loeffler Parcell of Blacksburg, VA, Danny Quann of King George, VA, Deborah and David Quann of Fredericksburg, VA, Darin Quann of Spotsylvania, VA, Cameron Tillman of Union City, MI, Zachary Tillman of San Diego, CA, and Shelbe Tillman of Indianapolis, IN; and great-grandchildren: Jakob Mumpower, Addie and Joshua Parcell, Ariel Selwyn, Jenna and Aaron Quann, Lindsey Olson, Scott and Andrew Quann, and Rachel Quann. Hyde Park - Carole Ann Acree, 73, of Hyde Park, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She was born on January 12, 1939 in Baltimore, MD to the late Andrew P. and Virginia Loretta Higginbotham. Carole earned her BA at Washington Bible College and worked as a nursery school teacher many years until her retirement. After Washington Bible College, she lived and worked at the Children's Bible Fellowship as a missionary house parent to mentally and physically handicapped children for several years. Carole Ann was a devoted member of the Fishkill Baptist Church, where she helped establish and taught at nursery school. She also taught Sunday School and adult classes. She was a life-long collector of Depression Glass and antiques. She enjoyed doing photography work, making scrap books for her grandchildren and sewing baby blankets for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. She had a great love for children. She will be loved and missed by all the lives she touched. Carole Ann is survived by her 3 children, Timothy Acree and his wife, Lori, of Modena, Susan Acree of Hyde Park and Daniel Acree and his wife, Nariman, of Hyde Park; half-sister Jean Tiegler of Chicago; 5 grandchildren, Joseph, John, Jeniffer, Danah and Sandra; 5 great-grandchildren, Mackanzie, Isabella, Kevin, Devin and Tori; and several nieces and nephews. Robert L. Heginbotham, 80, of Mt. Lake Park died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. Born on May 17, 1932 in Slippery Rock, PA, he was the son of the late Everett H. and Ruby (Claypoole) Heginbotham.
He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. He retired from Bausch & Lomb after 38 years of service and had lived in Rochester, NY prior to moving to Garrett County in 1971. He had served as past chaplain for the Deer Park VFW, a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 in Oakland, an associate member of the Elks Lodge 2481 and a member and faithful attendee of Bethel United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Jean (Rodgers) Heginbotham; two sons, Bruce Gene Heginbotham of Charlotte, NC and Scott Allen Heginbotham of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Robert Bruce Heginbotham and Brice Parker Heginbotham; a brother Ronald Heginbotham and wife Joyce of Mt. Lake Park; and a number of nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held on a later date in Rocky Gap Veteran's Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Holcomb officiating and military honors accorded by the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 and Deer Park VFW Post 10077 combined honor guard. FINDLEY, Marilyn Hickenbottom, 82, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at her home. Born, July 25, 1930, in Barnesville, OH, to the late John Henry and Eva Gertrude Bethel Hickenbottom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Matthew Findley, Jr. on March 28, 2012. She was a graduate of Barnesville High School Barnesville, OH and Hagerstown Junior College School of Nursing Hagerstown, MD. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Western Maryland Hospital Center Hagerstown, MD until retiring in 1993. She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity UCC Hagerstown, MD. Survivors include daughter, Joyce A. Bussard and her husband, John of Hagerstown, MD; sons, Dale E. Findley and his wife, Linda of Clear Spring, MD, Gary A. Findley of Sharpsburg, MD, Archie M. Findley, III and his wife, Carol of Hagerstown, MD, John W. Findley of Boonsboro, MD, James C. Findley and his companion, Grace of Williamsport, MD; sisters, Dorothy E. Motter of Albuquerque, NM, Carolyn B. Campbell of Barnesville, OH; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul M. Hickenbottom and Everett R. WILLIAM G. HIGGINBOTHAM, JR. 83 of Chestertown, MD, passed away two days shy of his 84th birthday in Chester River Medical Center. He was born on June 3, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late William G. and Theresa (Kleinhans) Higginbotham. Bill earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from LaSalle University. He served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal with the Military Police Corp from 1951-53. He married Kathleen Dugan in 1951. Bill worked for Selas Corp. of America, Dresher, PA, for over 25 years as a Product Manager for the Heat Processing Division and for Lucas-Milhaupt, Inc. a Handy and Harman Company as a Senior Field Engineer from 1982 to 1999 where he retired, selling precious metals for industrial applications. Bill lived in Roslyn and Audubon, PA before moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Along with his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brother, Thomas J. Higginbotham and infant sister, Loretta Higginbotham. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dallas Wiswell Higginbotham; sister, Teresa Blumenstock, Phila., PA; daughters, Diane (Frank) Bowser of Hatfield, PA and Kathleen (Robert) VanBibber of Nelsonville, Ohio; sons, William G. Ethne Flanagan Higginbotham, 92, of Annapolis and previously of Towson, MD, died July 30 at Brightview South River, Edgewater, MD. Born August 13, 1921, in Farmville, NC, Ethne Higginbotham attended Westhampton College, University of Richmond, VA. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Ethne graduated with a B.A., summa cum laude in 1942. While attending, she fell in love with a classmate, the late Rev. Leland "Higgi" Higginbotham, whom she married in 1943. She began a teaching career in Richmond and continued in Rochester, NY, where Higgi attended the Colgate Rochester Divinity School. Once their children went off to college, Ethne went on to earn a Master's in Mental Health, Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences, in 1973 at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Her research work included Some Healing Components in a Psychotherapy Group: A Descriptive Study, published in 1973. Ethne then began a new career in mental health counseling. In retirement, Ethne was an active member of the "Walkie Talkies" senior walking group, as well as a book group she frequently hosted in her Annapolis home. She also enjoyed sailing, swimming, and yoga. Ethne was an avid reader/researcher, reading three newspapers daily and sharing items of interest with friends and family. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Leland "Higgi" Higginbotham. Ethne is survived by a daughter, Ethne Lee Turowski, a son, Robert "Bob" Leland Higginbotham and his wife Gail Jacob Higginbotham, all of Annapolis; and three grandchildren, Laura Ethne Turowski of Alexandria, VA, Carson Lee Turowski and his wife Lindsey Nahmias Turowski of Newport, RI, and Jacob "Jake" Leland Higginbotham and his wife Lauren Defina Higginbotham of Annapolis. Harold, also known as "Higgie", proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. In addition, he served as President of the Providence Volunteer Fire Department and President of the Resident's Association at Glen Meadows Retirement Community.

On May 6, 2015, JAMES "JIM" EDWARD HIGGINBOTHAM passed away in Columbia, MD after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Theadus Ann; his daughter, Ashley and her husband Eric Holmberg of Pennsylvania; his son, Robert and his wife Sharon of Maryland; two grandchildren, Jack and Ryan; and his sister, Ruth Wilcoxen of Ohio. Loving and devoted son of James Clifton, Jr. and the late Ludella Ida (Haynie) Higginbotham passed away suddenly Monday, October 16, 2017. He is survived by his father, James, Jr. and stepmother, Jeanette; son, Daron Pierce; four grandchildren, Nazeeh, Darionna, Lola and Breyanna; two brothers, Dennis and James, III; three sisters, Janice, Monica and Karen; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jean “Alice” Higinbotham, 87, a longtime resident of Severn, passed away on July 8, 2019. She was born in Severn to the late John R. and Emma G. Sappington. She worked as an Office Manager for the General Counsel’s office in the Department of Defense at Ft. Meade for 20 years. Alice was an active member at Severn United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was also a past Sunday school teacher. Alice loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, baking, gardening and going to the Theatre. She was an avid walker with the Mills Milers for over 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, F. Robert Higinbotham; and her siblings, Richard Sappington, Ruth O’Brien and Sara Thompson.

She is survived by her devoted children, William Ray and his wife, Donna, Linda Parcher and her husband, Ken; cherished grandchildren, Emalee Lewis (Jason), Justin Ray (Meghan), Jeffrey Parcher (Bella) and Gregory Parcher; loving great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Joshua and Victoria Lewis; and her dear sisters, Dorothy Hubbard and Nancy Sykes.

The family will receive visitors at Severn United Methodist Church, 1215 Old Camp Meade Road, on Friday, July 12th, from 9:30-11:30 AM. Sergeant First Class (retired) James Clifton Higginbotham Jr. passed away peacefully at his residence in Forestville Maryland. James was the loving husband of Jeanette Brinson Higginbotham, and former husband to the late Ludella Ida Haynie Higginbotham. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, six children, Dennis, James, Janice, Monica, Karen and Tyresa, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, plus many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are sons, Ronald and Darrell. Helen Elizabeth Higginbottom, 95, passed away on February 22, 2021 in Glen Arm, MD.

"Betty" was born in Lorain, Ohio to Charles and Helen Gorman on January 22, 1926. She graduated from Goucher College. Betty married Harold Higginbottom Jr. on September 5, 1948.

She is survived by 4 children: David (Kathy), Nancy, Robin (Barry) and Janet (David); 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Edward Gable Higinbotham Sr., age 79, of Frederick, Maryland, died March 28, 2022, at Kline Hospice House. He was the husband of Rowena Feeney Higinbotham, his wife of 60 years.
Born on May 28, 1942, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Dorothy Gable Higinbotham and Frank Weadon Higinbotham.
He graduated from Frederick High School in 1960, where he was drum major and leader of the FHS marching band. He was also was a star on the track team, winning many awards. He held various offices in the FHS Alumni Association and was inducted into the FHS Distinguished Alumni.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force.
He was active in the management of Blue Ridge Oil Co., a division of Aero Oil Co., for more than 50 years, serving as vice president and general manager. He was a director of the Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Distributor’s Association (MAPDA).
He served on the advisory board for the Walkersville office of Farmers and Mechanics National Bank, and he was treasurer for friends of former Sen. Jack Derr. He was a member and chairman of the Frederick City Police Commission for 17 years, and a member of the Frederick City Labor Relations Panel.
He was actively involved in the Frederick community and held offices in various Frederick city and county organizations, including: Frederick Lions Club, North End Civic Association, Frederick Jaycees, Elks Club, American Legion, Catoctin Club, the Evangelical Reform United Church of Christ and the Spires Brass Band. He was a drum major of the Rohrersville Marching Band, Rohrersville, Maryland, and enjoyed marching in parades.
His passions were his family, especially his three grandsons, and collecting Lionel trains. He supported and attended his grandsons’ pursuits and could repair any broken train that came to him. He was also our devoted keeper of family history.
He is survived by his wife, Rowena; son, Edward G. Higinbotham Jr (Kathleen G); son, Dr. John P Higinbotham (Dr. Kathleen A); and three grandsons, E. Gable III, Michael and James. He is also survived by his brother, Randall Higinbotham (Kandy).
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland.
A celebration of Edward’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Monday April 4, 2022, at Stauffer Funeral Home.
Pastor Doug Jones will officiate.
Interment will be at New Oxford Cemetery in New Oxford, Pennsylvania.
