ROBERT C. CORNELIUS WED IN CALIFORNIA

In Oakland, California, on Tuesday evening, February 22, 1944, Miss Vesta Adele Higginbotham became the bride of Mr. Robert Cecil Cornelius, United States Navy. The ceremony was performed before the living room fireplace at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Ora Higginbotham, on Ocean View Drive.

The bridegroom is the youngest son of Mrs. Ida Cornelius of Vandevender Street, Mount Union.

The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Robert Higginbotham. The candlelight service was performed by the Rev. Edwin S. Johnson of Mission Covenant Church.

The bride wore a light blue costume suit with navy accessories. She carried a white Bible on which orchids and freesias were mounted.

Miss Victoria Johnson of Oakland, maid of honor, was attired in a navy blue suit, with pink accessories, and carried pink carnations.

The best man was Mr. James Shannahan, USN, who, like the bridegroom, is stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station.

Unable to be present for the wedding was Staff Sergeant Wallace Higginbotham, U. S. Army Air Corps, brother of the bride, who is in the South Pacific as a turret nose gunner on a Liberator bomber. The young sergeant has received the Air Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, and other decorations for his part in sinking several Japanese ships and shooting down a Jap Zero.

The bride is a University of California graduate with the class of 1933, and is employed as senior interviewer with the U. S. Employment Service.

The bridegroom is expecting sailing orders in the near future, after having been stationed in Alameda, California for the past year.
