Emily J. Wells Higinbotham

"It is with feelings of sadness and deep regret that we are called upon to
chronicle the death of a late and most estimable resident of this place Mrs.
Emily J. Higinbotham, which occurred on Wednesday evening last, at 5:30 at the
residence of her parents Col. J. H. and Ellen Wells, on East Main street, this
place.
Mrs. Higinbotham was born on the 11th day of January, 1840, at Burlington, Ohio,
but resided from childhood in Waynesburg. She entered Waynesburg College as a
student at an early age, in which capacity she was studious and attentive, and
was held in high esteem by the Faculty and her schoolmates. She graduated in the
class of 1859, and remained at this place with her parents, until she married B.
K. Higinbotham, in 1864. After their marriage they removed to Indiana, where
they resided, formerly at Lafayette, and latterly at Frankfort, that State. The
disease of which she died was of long standing, critical in its nature and
peculiar to sex. She had been treated by eminent physicians of Chicago,
Indianapolis, Baltimore, and from other parts of the country, but all to no
purpose. She came home to her parents accompanied by her son, an only child of
17 years, about three months ago to remain until she grew better, or to die if
so decreed, surrounded by her loving parents and her near and dear friends. Her
husband, who is a successful lawyer at Frankfort, paid frequent visits to her
whenever he could leave his business during her sickness here. But hope of
recovery soon vanished from her and from her friends, and after long and patient
suffering with a calm meekness and submission to her Savior's will she prepared
to meet her God. And in the fullness of a Christian life and in the bright bloom
of womanhood she gently fell asleep at eventide, to awaken in the sweet morn of
Heaven, surrounded by husband, son, parents, sisters and friends who mourn her
irreparable loss.
Mrs. Higinbotham connected herself at an early age with the M. E. church and
subsequently joined the Presbyterian church of which she was a consistent
member. She was noted for her amiable disposition and accomplishments and was
universally esteemed by all who knew her. Her remains were interred in Green Mt.
Cemetery on Friday (to-day), followed by a large concourse of friends. Dr. A. B.
Miller under whom she graduated performed the last sad rites to the lamented
dead. Messrs. Jas. Inghram, Samuel Montgomery, P. A. Knox and J. R. Rinehart
acted as pall bearers, the first two of whom graduated in the same class with
the deceased. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes.

Sons of James Higginbotham (????-1895) PA
Two sons of James Higginbotham, living near Uniontown, were suffocated in a well upon which work was in progress Sunday morning. One of the boys went down to look at the hole, and was overcome. His brother went to his aid, and also died, and a third boy only escaped death in the same manner by being pulled up by members of the family.

Malinda Maple Higinbotham (1820-1899) PA
Tippecanoe-Mrs. Malinda Higenbotham, widow of T.H. Higenbotham, died Saturday, January 28th, 1899, aged 78 years. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Pleasant View by the side of her husband. Mrs. Higenbotham was a daughter of the late Robert Maple, the oil man of Maple Creek, Greene county.

Sarah Higgenbotham (????-1901) PA
Philadelphia, June 12-At the Coroner's inquest today into the death of Mrs. Sarah Higgenbotham, who was murderously assaulted on June 4 and who died a few days later, Mary Rider, the colored servant, testified that John Higgenbotham, the woman's son, had killed his mother. Higgenbotham fainted when accused of the crime. The servant and Higgenbotham were sent to jail to await the action of the Grand Jury.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Hall Higginbotham, aged 52 years, 4 months and 27 days, was held from her late home in North Charleroi yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H.C. Boblitt, of the First Christian Church, assisted by Rev. G.G. Kerr, of the Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Monongahela cemetery. Mrs. Higginbotham died Friday evening at 8:45 o'clock from a complication of diseases. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Higginbotham, and seven children, Edward and John of Monessen, Mrs. P.E. Franks, of North Charleroi; Mrs. J.B. Acker of Mt. Clair, and Jennie, Annie and Mary at home. Mrs. Higginbotham had resided in North Charleroi for three years, and in this vicinity for ten years.

Elizabeth A. Holland Higinbotham (1855-1930) PA
Mrs. Elizabeth A. Higinbotham, wife of Uriah Higinbotham, died
at her home, 114 Union street, Tuesday, following a lingering illness of
practically three years. Death was caused by complication of diseases.
She was born near New Salem, January 6, 1855, and was a daughter of Harvey and
Rose Ann Holland. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Higinbotham moved to a farm
in Redstone township where they resided until the spring [sic] of 1907 when they
removed to their home in Uniontown.
Mrs. Higinbotham has been a member of the Presbyterian church of Pleasant View
for the past 35 years. Had she lived until November 30, she and her husband
would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband and ... Arthur, of Smock; ... Robinson, of
Flatwoods; and Mrs. T. S. Craft, of ... grandchildren. She is also survived by
the following brothers and sisters: Martin Holland, Mrs. Mitchell, Thomas
Holland, Mrs. Susan Woody and J. A. Holland, all of Uniontown.
Funeral services will be held at the late home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock
conducted by the Rev. J. B. Bryce, pastor of the Pleasant View Presbyterian
church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Word has been received here of the death of little June Higinbotham, age 5 years, twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Higinbotham of Aspinwall, Pa., yesterday morning following an illness of rheumatism. The Higinbothams were residents of Wilmington avenue, Gilmore Terrace, for several years. Mr. Higinbotham was an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad company here before moving to Aspinwall. Funeral services are being held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Samuel Higinbotham (1851-1932) PA
Samuel Higinbotham, of Royal, Redstone Township, died Sunday morning, January 31, 1932, at 2 o'clock. Death was due to complication. Mr. Higinbotham was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Higinbotham and was born October 25, 1851, at Dunkard, Greene county. He came to Royal with his family in 1857 where he remained until his death. In 1875 he was married to Miss Caroline Frasher and to this union eight children were born. Mrs. Higinbotham and one son preceded Mr. Higinbotham in death. Surviving are: Misses Bertha and Eliza Higinbotham, at home; Thomas H. Higinbotham, Brier Hill; Alfred M. Higinbotham, Doylestown, Bucks county; Nathaniel E. Higinbotham, Revere; W. W. Higinbotham, Uniontown, and W. H. Higinbotham, of Mt. Pleasant. Four grandchildren and one great grandchild, also one brother, Uriah Higinbotham of Uniontown survive. Funeral services will be held at the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R. J. Shields will officiate. Burial in Pleasant View cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Higinbotham, aged 82 years, died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning, February 24, 1935, in her home, 25 Robinson street, following an illness of complications. Surviving are three children, Mrs. H. M. Burchinal, Mrs. T. W. Gans and D. M. Higinbotham. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the family residence. Rev. W. H. McKinney, pastor of the Central Christian church will officiate. Burial in Pleasant View cemetery.

Mrs. Sara Louise Hickenbottom, widow of Walter Hickenbottom, died at 12:30 o'clock Saturday morning, June 5, 1937, in her home in Pittsburgh. Death climaxed an illness of complications.
Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Martha H. Witcher, of Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Hickenbottom formerly resided in Uniontown where she was well known.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Uriah Frank Higinbotham (1858-1937) PA
Uriah Frank Higinbotham, 79 years old, a former resident of Brownsville and one time a member of the General Assembly from Fayette county, died Friday at his home at St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a native of Redstone township and for years was engaged in business at Brownsville.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Ross funeral home at Brownsville. Burial will be made in Redstone Cemetery.

Miss Nellie B. Higginbotham, 69, lifelong resident of the Masontown district, died at 12:30 a.m. today at her home, after a long illness.
One of the best known women of the section, Miss Higginbotham leaves no immediate survivors, her nearest relatives being two second cousins, Mrs. Lenora Craft, Uniontown, and Mrs. Cordelia Hibbs, Chalk Hill.
The body has been taken to the Johnston Funeral home, Masontown, where friends will be received. Funeral arrangements are not complete.

Mrs. Lottie Higginbottom, wife of William C. Higginbottom, general manager of the Eastern region of the Pennsylvania railroad, died in Merion, suburb of Philadelphia, Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Higginbottom lived in Richmond from Jan. 16, 1922 to Mar. 1, 1923, while he was superintendent of the Richmond division of the Pennsylvania railroad. He was transferred from here to Pittsburgh and he has been general manager of the Eastern region since November 1931. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Higginbottom is survived by one daughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Higginbottom will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Oliver Bair Funeral parlors, 1820 Chestnut street, Philadelphia, with burial at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Pleasant View cemetery, Massillon, Ohio.

He was a son of George W. and Emma Colvin Higinbotham. Surviving are four sons, Herbert of Uniontown, Lynn with the U. S. Navy, Eugene of Merrittstown and Kenyon of the U. S. Army; two daughters, Beatrice of Merrittstown and Mrs. Grace Patterson; three brothers, William, Robert and Hadden of Grindstone; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jelly of Brownsville and Mrs. Minnie Hadden of Doylestown, and three grandchildren.

Missing Airman Now Known Dead
Co-Pilot Killed On 14th Mission
Word has been received from the War Department that Lt. Charles Wilber Higginbotham, previously reported missing, is now known to have been killed in action over Germany on March 21, 1945.
Co-pilot on a B-17, he was on his 14th mission when killed.
He was a graduate of Taylor Allderice High School and had been employed by the Union Railroad before entering the service in February, 1943.
He was the son of the late Charles H. and Nancy C. Higginbotham, 827 Lilac St. Surviving are a brother, Harold and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Mabold, of Homewood, and Miss Laura Higginbotham.

Callicoon-An unidentified woman died in a hospital yesterday to become the third victim of a crash of a German made sports car on Route 97 near this Sullivan County community.
State police said the unidentified woman was a passenger in the car which skidded out of control Sunday and crashed into a guard rail. Instantly killed were James Higginbotham and his wife Jean, both 45, of Carbondale, Pa.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday for Arthur Higinbotham, former Fayette County Commissioner who died Friday morning in Uniontown
Hospital.The Rev. J. R. Shields will officiate at the services in the home of a son, Robert W. Higinbotham, at 150 Lenox St. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery under direction of the Gleason Funeral Home.
Friends of Mr. Higinbotham, who succumbed at 8:50 a.m., yesterday after a lingering illness, are being received at the home of his son Robert.
A staunch Republican and agricultural leader, Mr. Higinbotham, 74, was also president of the Fayette Stockyards and was associated with the Center Gas
& Oil Co., at Smock.Mr. Higinbotham resided at 150 Union St. He was a member of the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, John Knox Sunday School Class, Franklin Grange and the B.P.O. Elks 1344 of Brownsville. His wife, Delia Jane Higinbotham, preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1953, also a son. Dr. U. F. Higinbotham, Sept. 7, 1943.
Surviving are two sons, Robert W. and Wilbur W., both of Uniontown; a daughter, Mrs. Harry R. Griffith of Uniontown; two sisters, Mrs. James G. Robinson of Smock and Mrs. Myrtle Bowden of Fairmont, W. Va., and six grandchildren.
The B.P.O. Elks will conduct ritualistic services in the residence tonight at 8 and Franklin Grange at 8:30. The John Knox Class will meet in the residence Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Grace Gertrude Heginbotham, 69-year-old wife of Joseph Heginbotham of Kittanning RD 5, died at 3:45 a.m. today (Sept. 10, 1959) in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient nine days.
She was a daughter of J.N. and Amanda (Neil) Lasher and was born March 1, 1890, in Washington Twp.
The Heginbothams returned to this community three years ago, after residing in Clairton for almost 40 years. Mrs. Heginbotham was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Clairton.
Surviving besides her husband are one son, Russell Heginbotham of Kittanning RD 5; two brothers, I.D. Lasher of Adrian RD 1 and Robert N. Lasher of Kittanning, and three sisters, Mrs. Nora E. Croyle of Kittanning RD 5, Mrs. Mabel Hooks of Kittanning RD 3 and Mrs. Blanche Roofner of Kittanning RD 1.
The family will receive friends at the Bauer Funeral Home from 7-9 this evening and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Services in the funeral home will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev.

Mrs. Ethel Higinbotham Tweed, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Uniontown, died Tuesday evening at her home.

Mrs. Persa H. (Heginbotham) Nowers, 69, of 828 S. Poplar St., Allentown, died Sunday in the Allentown Hospital. She was the wife of Donald G. Nowers.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bell (Robson) Heginbotham. She was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school there for 25 years. She was past president of the Cosmopolitan Club of Allentown and a graduate of the university of California. She taught English and history at the Salt Lake High School, Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was active in the Red Cross Children's Aid Society and the Family Welfare Organization. She was a well known lecturer in the Allentown area for many years.
She is survived, besides her husband, by two sons, The Rev. Donald G., Jr., Millersville, and the Rev. Earl R., Luthersville, Md.; a sister, Ruth, wife of Harold Sturgeon, Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Earl Heginbotham of Los Angeles, and Howard of San Francisco, and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 1601 Hamilton St., Allentown. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The accident occurred near a curve in the roadway according to a police spokesman and the investigation is continuing concerning which vehicle was on the “wrong side of the road.”
The fatality was the fifth on Derry Twp. during 1976.

Brownsville, a passenger in the Higinbotham car, received a moderate neck injury
and was treated and released from
According to state police at the Belle Vernon Barracks, Higinbotham was backing out of a private driveway at 360 Old National Pike and entering the westbound lanes of the highway when a car driven by Timothy A. Cole, 19, of Big Lewis St. Brownsville, struck the rear of the car. Both vehicles were knocked approximately 100 feet before coming to rest off the highway.
Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by Denbo-Vesta Six Volunteer Fire Department, Brownsville Ambulance and Ambulance and Chair Service.
An investigation into the incident is continuing.

Margaret Higginbotham Richardson-Santos, 92; retired social work
supervisor/training instructor
Margaret "Marie" Higginbotham Richardson-Santos, 92, of Swarthmore, a teacher
and social worker, died Sept. 23 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.
Born in Desoto, Mo., Mrs. Richardson-Santos was a member of the Class of 1927 at
Sumner High School in St. Louis. She was also a graduate of Stowe Teacher’s
College and the University of Pennsylvania. She was one of only three
African-Americans to graduate with a master’s degree from Penn at the time.
Mrs. Richardson-Santos was employed by Inter-Church Child Care Society as a case
work supervisor and student training instructor for eight years before her
retirement in 1970. Prior to that, she was employed by the New Jersey Board of
Child Welfare, the Philadelphia Department of Public Welfare and Philadelphia
Children’s Services.
She also worked as a teacher at the Carter G. Woodson School of Negro History
and Douglas University, both in Missouri.
Mrs. Richardson-Santos was a member of the Wesley A.M.E. Church in Swarthmore,
where she served as president of the missionary society and belonged to various
clubs.
She was also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and the National Association
of Social Workers.
Mrs. Richardson-Santos loved to sing, dance and play the organ.
She was the widow of the late James Arcell Richardson, who died in 1972, and the
late Macario "Mike" Santos, who died in 1989. She was the daughter of the late
Henry Lewis Higginbotham and Ellen Bland and the last of nine siblings.
Survivors: Devoted companion, Dorrett Brown; three nephews, one niece, many
great-nieces, nephews and friends.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Wesley A.M.E. Church, Swarthmore.
Visitation: 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial: Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Sharon Hill.

Samuel Lee Higginbotham (1927-2002) PA
Pittsburgh-A Pittsburgh man was arrested over the weekend and charged with killing his uncle, who was found wrapped in a carpet inside their garage.
Kenneth Phillip Jackson, 36, was charged with criminal homicide in the death of Samuel Lee Higginbotham, 75, whose body was found Dec. 18, wrapped in a rug inside a garage at the house he shared with Jackson.
Police initially responded to the home during an extortion investigation. Some owners who had paid money for their missing dogs said they had not gotten their pets back.
Detectives went to the home to find a suspect, but once inside, they immediately smelled the rotting body.
Detective Dennis Logan said Jackson was arrested on a warrant regarding the extortion case. Logan said Jackson admitted leaving the body in the carpet, but said he didn't kill his uncle.

Anna Burdess Higginbotham. She formerly lived at 816 German St.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Joseph Vern Miller; a son,
Lavern Miller; a sister, Mabel Hartzel; and two grandchildren, Ronald and Eric
Miller.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Miller and his wife, Patricia, of Bradenton,

She was employed as a machine operator by J.L. Clark Co., Lancaster, from 1968 until retiring in 1992.
Mrs. Groff was a member of the Happy Hearts Club, Lancaster. An avid reader, she also enjoyed doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Born in Callahan, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Duncan Sr. and Mabel Bair Higginbotham.

John Mark Heginbotham, 67, of Golden Heritage Personal Care, Ford City, died Friday, July 11, 2003 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was born March 19, 1936 in Adrian to Deemer Roy and Virginia Ruth (John) Heginbotham. He was a lifelong resident of Adrian. He was a member of the Brush Valley Brethren Church. His hobbies included listening to the Grand Ole Opry and traveling. Survivors include two brothers, William Heginbotham and Charles Heginbotham both of Kittanning, two half-brothers, Ralph Toy of Missouri and Eugene Toy of Pittsburgh; and one half-sister, Kathleen (Toy) Shirley. He was proceeded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Heginbotham; and his infant twin brother, James Heginbotham. Richard H. Higinbotham, 89, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 at The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (Strausbaugh) Higinbotham, who died July 24, 2001. Born August 13, 1914 in Rippin, WV, he was the son of the late Ralph H. and Mary Adelaide (Trussell) Higinbotham. Richard was the former mayor of New Oxford and retired from Aero Oil Co. in 1979. He was a member of St. Paul's U.C.C., New Oxford; Good Samaritan Lodge 336 Gettysburg, where he was a past Master in 1949; Zembo Temple Shrine, Harrisburg; New Oxford Social & Athletic Club; and New Oxford High School Building Authority. He was a former member of the New Oxford Lions Club; Chairman of New Oxford Antique Days for 1 year; and was Man of the Year in New Oxford in 1979. He graduated from New Oxford High School Class of 1933. He is survived by two sons, David H. Higinbotham of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Samuel L. Higinbotham of Lakewood, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Higinbotham.

James S. Higginbotham, 83, of Coraopolis, died Sunday, March
14 [2004], at his residence. Mr. Higginbotham was born Jan. 2, 1921 in Amherst,
Va., a son of the late Epoch and Rebecca (Watson) Higginbotham. 'Higgy' worked
for American Chem-Sol for many years until the company went out of business. He
was a school bus driver for Student Transportation of America. He was also past
commander of the Walter Robinson VFW in Sewickley. Survivors include three
daughters, Ashley Higginbotham of Raleigh, N.C., Tracy Higginbotham of
Woodbridge, Va., and Vanessa Higginbotham of Summerville, S.C.; one brother,
Epoch Higginbotham of Amherst, Va.; one sister, Polly Gumbs of New Jersey; and
several grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Copeland's of Coraopolis.
Burial was at Coraopolis Cemetery.

Charles H. Heginbotham, 67, of Kittanning RD3 died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1937 in Armstrong County to Deemer and Ruth (Johns) Heginbotham. Mr. Heginbotham was retired from Glacial Sand & Gravel Co. where he was a weighmaster. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian. He was also a member of the American Legion in Kittanning. A lifelong resident of his community, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nancy (Frick) Heginbotham; two sons, Bryan Heginbotham at home and Steven Heginbotham and wife Rochelle of Kittanning RD3; one daughter, Ginger Wilson of Kittanning; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Heginbotham and Tyler Wilson; two brothers, William Heginbotham of Kittanning and Eugene Toy of Unity; and one sister, Kathleen Shirley of West Kittanning. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Wayne, John and James Heginbotham. Jane E. Alexander, 67, of Coatesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at
home.
Born Feb. 27, 1937, in Nellis, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Ira and
Annie Riley Higginbotham.
She was the wife of William Alexander of Coatesville.
Jane was office manager for Carmen Giacchino’s Automobile Dealerships in three
locations over a 30-year period. She also worked for C&G Oldsmobile in
Coatesville, Carman Lincoln Mercury in Wilmington, Del., and Castle Ford in New
Castle, Del.
She was affiliated with Wyebrook Baptist Church, and Coatesville Bible
Fellowship.
She was a member of Chester County FOP Lodge #11 Auxiliary of West Chester.
Jane was known at the family caregiver and opened her home and heart to family
member in need.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Jane is survived by two daughters,
Debbie Dutter and husband, Butch, of Coatesville, and Cathy Green and husband,
Scott, of Coatesville; two sons, Rocky Alexander and wife, Tonna, of
Springfield, and Jim Alexander of Narvon; a daughter-in-law, Terri Alexander of
Coatesville; six grandchildren, Dan, Jeffrey, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Jennifer and
Nicholas; two brothers, Bob Higginbotham of Brandamore, and Butch Higginbotham
of Shreveport, La.; and two sisters, Sarah King of Coatesville, and Joanne

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Freddie, who died on May 6, 1990; a
brother and sister, Ira and Nancy Higginbotham.

She was born January 20, 1916, in Washington, a daughter of John Sherman and
Bertha Lennox McNeal.
Mrs. Higginbotham worked as a custodian for Trinity School District and
Washington County Jail, as a waitress at Julia's Restaurant, and as a checker at
Fidel and Imperial Cleaners.
She was Protestant and enjoyed crocheting and crafts.
Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Schwering of Washington; a brother, John W.
McNeal of Canonsburg; four grandsons, William J. Schwering, Charles Edward
Schwering, Richard Scott Schwering and David Anthony; three granddaughters,
Helen Mayer, Cindy Bock, and Linda Perry; three great-granddaughters; and two
great-grandsons.
Deceased are a son, Walter E. Anthony; three grandchildren who died in infancy;
a sister, Bertha McCombs.

Sarah Olive Higginbotham King (1939-2010) WV/PA
Sarah O. Higginbotham King Age 70, wife of Chester L. King of East Fallowfield, PA, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Brandywine Hospital following a lengthy illness. Sarah was born in Otsego, WV, the daughter of the late Ira and Annie Riley Higginbotham. Due to her illness for the last ten years she was unable to continue her employment with the Coatesville Country Club. She operated the halfway house serving the members she so loved. Previously she worked at the Crestmont Diner as a cook and server. Sarah was a member of Kingsway Independent Church of Sadsburyville, where she was instrumental in the creation of the memorial garden. Her passions were her many flower gardens, baking cookies, breads, and preparing her children's favorite meals. Her main passion was crocheting, everyone benefited from her many gifts of afghans, sweater sets, hair bows and many other crocheted items. She was an excellent seamstress and made her own clothes. In addition to her husband Chester of 23 years, Sarah is survived by 6 children, Susie Gossert and husband Denny of Landenberg, PA, Lewis Butler and wife Karen of Harleysville, PA, Todd Fuller and wife Karen of Honey Brook, PA, Sarah Garriga and husband Greg of Saucier, MS, Mark Fuller and wife Cathee of Ephrata, PA, Lee Fuller and wife Bonnie of Christiana. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Higginbotham and wife Peggy of Glenmoore, PA, Leonard Higginbotham of Picayune, MS and a sister, Joanne Stotsenberg of Glouster City, NJ. Her dear daughter, Annie Bradley Wild and sister, Jane Alexander preceded her in death. Also survived by her best friend of 60 years, Lillian Kryder. The family expresses their deep appreciation and love for the staff at Brandywine Hospital for the care that she received during her many stays. We will be forever grateful. KELLY PATRICIA A. "PAT" 69, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Monday Sept. 13, 2010 at Tide Well Hospice House in Arcadia, FL. She was born June 30, 1941 in Homestead, Pa. to Violet (Gertrude) Hatfield and Raymond Higginbotham. Pat worked for more than 30 yrs at Group Health Inc. in Washington, DC. After early retirement she started a second career at Mount Vernon Travel in Alexandria, VA. She retired a second time in 2005. Pat moved from Alexandria, VA to Arcadia, FL adopting it as her new home. Always with a quip and lighthearted approach to life's challenges, she had a passion for on line gaming. This allowed her to reach beyond her homesteads in PA, VA, and FL and develop many more dear friendships. Survivors include a son, David P Kelly, Jr., Her brothers Keith, Bruce and Paul Bennett, and her sister Susan Higginbotham. Pat was preceded in death by a daughter, a sister, a brother and her parents. It was Pat's wish that no viewing or services be held. Leonard D. "Butch" "Pops" Higginbotham, Sr., 66, of Quakertown, died December 25, 2010 in his home. Born in Mullens, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Ira and Annie (Riley) Higginbotham. He was an amusement ride technician for Crescent City Amusements, in Slidell, Louisiana. He enjoyed dirt track racing, football, and going to casinos playing video poker. He is survived by a son, Leonard, Jr. and a daughter Amy Blackmon and her husband Mike all of Quakertown; a brother, Bob and a sister, JoAnne; two grandchildren Emily Rebecca and Brandon Joseph. He was predeceased by a daughter Rebecca, a brother Ira, and three sisters Sara, Jane, and Nancy. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 7, in the C. R. She was born April 19, 1913, in Allison, Fayette County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Roxlina Downes Pletcher. Mrs. Higinbotham resided in Uniontown most of her life and worked as a seamstress at Kaufmann's in Uniontown. She enjoyed craft work and knitting. She was the last of her immediate family. Sue Higginbotham Lawyer, 88, of Middletown, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, in the Colonial Park Care Center, Lower Paxton Township. Born in Tarrant, AL, on June 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ellis P. and Elizabeth Susan Higginbotham. Sue retired from the Credit Central Department of Sears, Roebuck & Company, Harrisburg. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, Hershey. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 380, Harrisburg; and the Women of the Moose Chapter 552, Middletown. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, nothing meant more to Sue than her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adrian Rufus Watson, Jr.; a grandson, Rusty Watson; four sisters; and one brother. Sue is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth G. Lawyer, whom she married on December 26, 1951; four sons, Ronald E. Watson of Cleveland, TN, J. Adrian Watson husband of Helen "Scootie" Watson of Callao, VA, James E. Watson husband of Sandra Watson of Elizabethtown, and Kenneth W. Lawyer of Middletown; one daughter, Sandy G. Dragovan companion of Michael E. Ramsey of Middletown; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Pugs. In keeping with Sue's wishes, there will be no services. Born Nov. 7, 1979, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the Rev. Robert W. and Ruth McDowell Higginbotham Jr. Rob was a drug and alcohol counselor at Abraxis near Marienville. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a coach for the Kane Area Soccer Association for those under six years old. Surviving, in addition to his parents of Cranberry Township, are his fiancée, Katie Cappello of Kane; two sons, Connor W. and Robert "RJ" Higginbotham, both at home; a sister, Rebecca J. Gillam of Edwardsville, Kan.; and grandparents Robert W. and Betty Higginbotham Sr. Several aunts and uncles survive, plus a niece and a nephew. He was preceded in death by grandparents F. Wilson and Kathryn Jean McDowell and Delores J. Higginbotham. ELDRED - Brenda D. Morris, 58, formerly of Eldred, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2013) at Sena-Kean Manor in Smethport following a long illness. Born Oct. 29, 1954, in Jacksonville, Fla., she was a daughter of Fred and Lucy Burrows Higginbotham. Brenda was a 1972 graduate of Zephyrhills (Fla.) High School and later attended community college. She had resided in the Eldred area since 1988, and before entering Sena-Kean Manor she had resided in Hazel Hurst with her fiancé, Theodore Foster. She had been employed by the McKean County Redevelopment and Housing Authority in Smethport before becoming disabled. Brenda loved being with her grandchildren. She was an avid thrifter and enjoyed reading. Surviving are one son, Matthew (Donna) Morris of East Smethport; one daughter, Stacy (Bryan) Greene of Lake Wylie, S.C.; six grandchildren, Bryanna Greene, Wyatt Greene, Matthew Morris II, Kristopher Lowman, Abigail Cummings and Nicholas Cummings; one brother, Sonny Higginbotham of Zephyrhills; and three sisters, Betty Coleman of Okeechobee, Fla., Sue Baker of Newark, Ark., and Carol (Dale) Eudy of Dunnellon, Fla. Thomas Edward Higinbotham (1926-2016) PA
Thomas E. Higginbotham, 89, formerly of Brighton Township, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Township, where he had been a resident since 2009. Born October 28, 1926, in Rice’s Landing, PA, he was a son of the late George Coffman and Lucille Gray Higginbotham. Tom graduated 9th in his senior class of 83 and upon graduation, served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II where he was honorably discharged in 1946. Using his GI Bill, he graduated in 1950 from Waynesburg College. With his degree in hand, he started his career at Michael Baker, and remained there until his retirement in 1991 after 37 years. Tom was a member and treasurer of the Beaver Valley Camera Club, Beaver Men’s Club, and a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. As a man of great faith, Tom was a longtime, devout member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver. He loved God, religiously studied the Bible and devotions, and since 1956, served in many capacities including Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Sessions for several classes, and teacher for the Men’s Sunday School Class. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed golfing and looked forward to photo opportunities during Pittsburgh’s Light Up Nights. When the snow fell, you would be able to find him sledding on the hill behind the family home of 47 years in Wickham Heights. Preceding Tom in death was his beloved wife, Dixie Jean Snell of Waynesburg, whom he married in November 1952 and loved until her death 59 years later in May of 2012. Surviving Tom is a daughter, Carrie Lynn (Gary Wayne) Boettner, Spartanburg, SC; one grandson, Thomas William Boettner, MN; a brother, George C. Higginbotham, Jr., OH; a sister, Janet (Robert) Jennings, Ardmore, PA, and several nieces, cousins and a nephew. Friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church, 252 College Avenue, Beaver, on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 3 p.m. until time of service at 5 p.m. A private interment will take place at Beaver Cemetery, Beaver. Duncan "Sock" Higginbotham, 86, of Quarryville, passed away at his home on Friday, February 22, 2019. He was the husband of Mary Jane Miller Higginbotham. They had celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Born in Callahan, FL, he was a son of the late Duncan and Mabel Bear Higginbotham.
In his early career Sock worked as a truck driver. He then went to work in construction, retiring from Wickersham Construction Co., Lancaster.
An avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman, he enjoyed being outdoors. Watching baseball occupied much of his time. Sock always enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, and the many foster children he raised.
In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by 2 children, Judy Barker (James), Quarryville, Joseph Higginbotham, Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and his sister Shirley Shenk. He was predeceased by his sister Flossie Groff.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services at Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 144 East State Street, Quarryville, on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. Bruce Edward Higginbotham, Age 77, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019, at his home. Beloved husband of Darlene Higginbotham for 48 years; loving father of Bruce R. (Mary Anne) Higginbotham, Elley A. (Todd) Beatty, and Amanda J. Higginbotham; proud grandfather of Bruce Edward Higginbotham II, Kacie Beatty, Brynn Beatty and Gianna Beatty; caring brother of Karen (the late Gary) Smith; brother-in-law of David and Robert Bonazza; uncle of Jennifer and Brian Smith. Bruce was born on May 15, 1942, in Bryn Mawr, PA to late Robert and Peggy Higginbotham. He was raised in Farmingdale, NY and graduated from Farmingdale Senior High School. Bruce received his Bachelor's degree in Finance from Hofstra University, and then served in the U.S. Army. He started his career at Ford Motor Company and became an entrepreneur in the Energy Industry, where he retired at Castle Gas Inc. in 2007. Bruce was an avid golfer and a member of the South Hills and Shadow Wood Country Clubs. He was a collector of WWII memorabilia. Bruce also enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards and most of all enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Linda Richards Rizor Higginbotham (1945-2022) PA
February 1, 1945 to March 1, 2022
Linda was born on February 1, 1945 (Linda Richards) to the late Walter
Richards and Dorothy Bell Richards. Linda grew up in the Mt. Morris
and Waynesburg area, graduating from Waynesburg High School in 1963.
Marrying her first husband; James M. Rizor of the Garrison PA area and
together raising three children.
During this time, she and her then husband James with other family members
ran DVM Services and many other businesses. Linda and her first
husband Jim continued in business thru out her lifetime.
Linda was a very successful business woman, with an uncanny ability with
numbers. During the Governor Bob Casey Sr. Administration Linda was
Chairwoman of the Women’s Democratic League of Greene County.
Linda married her second husband; the late William Higinbotham in the early
1990’s and resided in Morgantown, WV and Cape Coral, Florida. Upon
William’s passing, Linda returned to the Pennsylvania area to be near her
children.
She was a strong, independent, highly intelligent and was a true lady.
Linda had her own beautiful, gracious style, which not only showed in her
appearance. She also had a great eye for color and detail which
reflected in her home. She will be greatly missed by all that loved
and adored her.
Surviving are her children; Debra Hoy (Murray), Melissa Yeater (Jason), and
Jeffrey Rizor; grandchildren, Courtney, Karlie, Kamron, Kyle, Marcus, Isaac,
Kaitlyn, Joel and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Leigha, Millie and Landyn, and
two step-great-granddaughters, Kyli and Rylissa; one brother, Walter
Richards (Lynette) and a sister, Marcia Lazenby (Ron).
Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Mickey Lucas; and a sister-in-law,
Sandi Richards; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter,
Kyrstie Hoy; three brothers and two sisters; Harry, Daniel, Barbara, and
David and Myrtle who died as children.

She was born July 12, 1980 in Morgantown, W.Va. a daughter of William (Bill)
Ross of Hagans, W.Va. and Rose Marie Rowan Ross Lemley of Morgantown, W.Va. and
has been a resident of Waynesburg since 2012.
Mrs. Higginbotham attended the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church in
Waynesburg.
She was a 1998 graduate of the University High School and briefly attended West
Virginia University, both in Morgantown, W.Va.
Mrs. Higginbotham enjoyed reading, crocheting and flower arranging.
She was last employed at Giant Eagle in Morgantown and Target in Washington, Pa.
On May 26, 2012 she married Douglass Edward Higginbotham who survives.
Also surviving in addition to her husband and her parents are a daughter, Kylea
Higginbotham and a son, Isaac Ross, both at home; a brother, Justin Lemley of
Morgantown, W.Va.; paternal grandmother, Juanita Kemp of Hagans, W.Va.;
step-mother, Kathy Ross of Hagans, W.Va.; step-sister, Trina Knicely of Hagans,
W.Va.; two step-brothers, David Parker of Granttown, W.Va. and Bryan Parker of

Mary Margaret Higginbotham Shugdinis (1940-2022) VA/PA
Mary Margaret "Peggy" Shugdinis, 81, of West Pittston, passed away Sunday,
May 1, 2022.
Mary was born in Appomattox, Va., daughter of the late Alfred and Mary
Higginbotham.
Peggy worked in retail for many years. She was very active and preferred to keep
her hands busy even while sitting. Peggy was an avid gardener and expert
crocheter and enjoyed solving word puzzles. Peggy's greatest joy was spending
time with her four granddaughters.
Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Shugdinis; son, Robert and
his wife, Angela, Simsbury, Conn.; daughter, Cheryl Mullin, Southwick, Mass.;
granddaughters, Sydney, Devon and Jordan Shugdinis; and Madison Mullin; and
siblings, Belle Campbell, Florida; Rosa Lee Cyrus, Virginia; and Robert
Higginbotham, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Orville, Harry, Cecile and Travis
Higginbotham.
Funeral services for Mary will be private and held the convenience of the
family. She will be laid to rest in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pittston.

Robert “George” Higinbotham, 75, longtime resident of Alexandria, passed away
peacefully in the arms of his family on July 4, 2022, gaining his independence
from a body badly broken in a fall.
Born Feb. 16, 1947, in Rochester, New York, he was the son of the late Robert
and Galla (Kozloff) Higinbotham.
George was a 1965 graduate of Juniata Valley High School, where he played
trumpet, then tuba in the band. He went on to earn a B.A. in English at
Susquehanna University.
Music was George’s passion. He grew up experiencing the joy that music brings
through jam sessions in his home with musician friends of the family, joining in
singing and learning guitar and upright bass.
Through the following years, George played bass and banjo with the band Whiskers
& Lace, worked with the music department at Juniata Valley, and taught music at
Grier School. He was a bass player in the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra for 25
years and played for musicals and other events at area schools and colleges up
to and through his retirement.
George attended Juniata College and Marywood University to earn his MSW (master
of social work) in 2002, then served as a professional social worker in
Huntingdon County.
For over 15 summers, up to the 2020 pandemic shutdown, George enjoyed being a
captain on the Proud Mary tour boat at Lake Raystown Resort.
Robert George Higinbotham is survived by his wife, Roxane Rix, his sister and
brother-in-law Galla Higinbotham and Daniel Crosser of Alexandria, his sister
Janet (Udaya Puliyasseri) Fruehstueckl and her children Marianne (Michael)
Fruehstueckl and Damien Richard, of Austria, and his best friend, Kevin Curry of
West Monroe, New York.
In keeping with his dedication to the well-being of others, George has donated
his body to serve medical research and education. No services are currently
scheduled.

Mrs. Betty Lou Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at home. Born March 6, 1942 to the late Jasper and Mabel Higginbotham. Wife of the late Gregory A. Johnson. Betty attended the Pittsburgh Public School District. She was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Giant Eagle Local #23. Survived by her son Gregg Johnson (Linda); daughter Sherrie Jackson (John); grandsons Mark Johnson and John Jackson IV; granddaughter Jonae Jackson; sister Lorraine James Wilson; and brother Thomas Higginbotham; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers Jasper Higginbotham and Jerry Higginbotham; sisters Katherine Frazier, Alice Dukes, and Josephine Higginbotham. Lillian G. Maiorano, 88, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022, at her
home at Ann's Choice Retirement Community, Warminster, PA. Born in East Orange,
NJ, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Stevens) Higginbotham and John
Higginbotham.
Graduating from East Orange High school in 1952, Lillian married her sweetheart,
the late Vincent J. Maiorano in 1954 after his service in the Korean Conflict.
She was devoted to her family and loved holiday celebrations, taking many
photographs when the entire family would get together. She cherished summer
vacations with her children and grandchildren at Ortley Beach and later
Wildwood, NJ. Later in life, Lillian became interested in her genealogy and
spent many hours tracing her ancestry.
Lillian is survived by her three children, daughters Deborah Maiorano Smith and
her husband, Grant, of Perkasie, PA, and Diane Parisi and her husband, Anthony,
of Franklin Park, NJ, and her son, Vincent Maiorano, and his wife, Sandra, of
Clayton, OH; her five grandchildren, Aaron Cooley, Amy Voupel, Anthony Maiorano,
Samantha Maiorano, and Stephanie Maiorano. Lillian is also survived by her
beloved seven great-grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Viewing hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the
Holcombe- Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A service of
remembrance will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 am on Friday at the
funeral home, immediately followed by interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery in
Flemington NJ.

Alice Sinex Higginbotham (ca1930-2022) PA
Alice Higginbotham, 92, of Aston Township died on October 4,
2022 at her home. Born in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Walter and
Marian Neal Sinex.
Alice was a graduate of Ridley Township High School. She loved animals and cared
and nursed many injured animals back to health, she also enjoyed trips to the
boardwalk.
Alice was the wife of William Owen Higginbotham, mother of William S.
Higginbotham and the late Alice M. Peoples, grandmother of Stephanie Lynn
Higginbotham, and sister of Loretta McCracken.
Graveside service 2 PM Friday, October 7, 2022 at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Ridge

Mr. Jerry Lee Higginbotham, 69, of Fairfield, PA passed away Thursday morning,
October 13, 2022, in his home.
Born November 22, 1952 in Charlestown, WV, he was the son of the late Thomas E.
and Helen V. (Mullins) Higginbotham.
Jerry served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was
stationed in Germany.
He and his wife of over 42 years, Linda (Varner) Higginbotham, were married on
February 14, 1980.
Jerry worked at Moore Business Forms, Thurmont, MD for over 20 years. He later
worked for Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, PA for 5 years. He retired in 2009.
He was a member of the Blue Ride Sportsman’s Association and enjoyed going on
trips to Myrtle Beach, SC and Ocean City, MD.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kelly Bricker
(Michael) of Sharpsburg, MD, Nicole Emory (Chad) of Fairfield, PA and Jerry
Higginbotham, Jr. of Sharpsburg, MD; a grandson whom he raised, Justin Bricker
of Fairfield; 8 additional grandchildren, Jennifer Bricker, Holly Bricker,
Mathew Bricker, Tyler Emory, Tucker Emory, Trenton Emory, Hailey Higginbotham
and Hunter Higginbotham; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 17, 2022 in Green
Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook
officiating.
There will be no public viewing.

age 95, of Delmont, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Melva was born
on July 18, 1927 in Highland Park, MI, to O'shea Lawrence and Otho Melva
(Koontz) Higginbotham. She is survived by her daughter, Melva L. Ginther, three
grandchildren, Louise (Jeff) Martin, Denise (Mike) Young and Richard (Buffie)
Ginther; seven great grandchildren, Kristilee, Robbie, Joshua, Ryan, Shane,
Breanna, and Brett. In addition to her parents, Melva is preceded in death by
first husband, Harold William Megran, second husband, William Clyde Miller, Jr.,

Judy passed away peacefully in her sleep 2/26/23 after a very long battle with
COPD. She was made comfortable and said she was at peace and not in pain. Those
who knew her knew that she was very friendly and she had a lot of IRL & Facebook
friends. She loved to paint with watercolors & she liked Vegas style games &
bingo. At age 81, she thought it funny that she had outlived 3 husband's.
Survived by her sister Carolyn, her children, Mark, Regina & Julie, 12
Grandkids, 23 Great Grandkids, 2 GreatGreat Grandkids and 2 Great-Great-Great
Grandkids as well as many extended family members. Predeceased by her parents
Howard & Orpha Higginbotham, 3 siblings, her children Andrea & James, 3
grandchildren and 1 Great- Great grandson.

Doris June Higinbotham Knox, 95, of Grindstone, passed away in St. Mary's,
Georgia, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
She was born on August 16, 1928 to the late Samuel Higinbotham and Lucy Ashcraft
Higinbotham.
Doris loved quilting, cooking, baking, and canning. She was the oldest member of
The Uniontown Church of the Brethren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67
years, Glenn Knox, on May 1, 2018; brother, Charles Higinbotham; and
sister-in-law, Aliece Higinbotham.
Doris is survived by her son, Wesley Knox and his wife, Paula; daughter, Lou Ann
Knox; granddaughters, Lauren Knox and Stacey Passieu and her husband, Joey;
great-grandson, Brent Nichols; great-granddaughter, Lucie Passieu; brothers,
Edward Higinbotham and wife, Nonie, and David Higinbotham; special friend, Ava
Roach; and several nieces and nephews
Friends will be received in THE DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New
Salem, from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. A Funeral

Virginia Sangston Higinbotham, 88, of Uniontown, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, in Marquis Gardens, Uniontown. She was born August 2, 1935, a daughter of the late Glenn and Elsie Deal Sangston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Higinbotham Sr.; and siblings, J. Robert “Bob” Sangston, Alice Marie Darrell and Betty J. Sangston. Virginia was a 1953 graduate of South Union High School. She was a member of The Trinity United Presbyterian Church and the Old Trails Lions Club. During her life, Virginia worked as a legal secretary for Alfred E. Jones Jr., a bookkeeper for McCoy Plumbing & Heating, office manager for her husband’s business, and in later years as a patient services coordinator for Liken Home Medical and DeFelice Care. Left to cherish Virginia’s memory are her children, grandchildren (who knew her as Gram/Virgie), and great- grandchildren (who knew her as GiGi): daughter, Elsie M. (Wayne) Workman; son, James E. (Roberta) Higinbotham Jr.; her granddaughter, Amanda M. (Andrew) Hostetler; and grandson, Wayne E. (Amanda) Workman; granddaughter, Alexandra Nuccetelli/Dario Piccolomini; and great- grandchildren, Brinley, Cayley, Adaley, Lilly, Mia, Gavin and Lorenzo. Samuel Edward Higinbotham, 97, of Uniontown, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024, in Peroni Personal Care Home. He was born October 25, 1926, in Uniontown, son of the late William Samuel Higinbotham and Lucy Ashcraft Higinbotham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Higinbotham; and sister, Doris Knox. Samuel was a 1944 graduate of Redstone High School. He was a member of Pleasant View Presbyterian Church. Samuel served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for Uniontown Area School District for 24 years as maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed making wood toys such as trucks and tractors. He has made over 10,000 toys to date and has donated many of them to the Pennsylvania State Police, Uniontown Police and CYS. Left to cherish Samuel’s memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Winona Ruth Snyder Higinbotham; son, Mark Edward Higinbotham and wife, Pamela; daughter, Sharon Lee Higinbotham Butcho and husband, Ray; grandchildren: Eric Higinbotham, Andy Higinbotham and wife, Brittany and Chelsea Higinbotham and husband, William Porter; and brother, David Higinbotham. "Dan" VanSickle, loving mother of Lee A. VanSickle and Lori Barr (Dan), grandmother of Daniel Barr (Emily Wolfson) and Christopher Barr and great-grandmother of Kailee, Declan, Liam, David and Kinzley. Carol was a graduate of Maryland Medical Secretarial School. She was a former member of Pittsburgh Mendelssohn Choir and a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church. Carol was a former secretary of John McMillan Elementary School in Bethel Park and United Methodist Children's Home in Versailles, KY. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family and was proud to have her recipes published in the Southern Living Magazine. Nellie Mae Leichliter, age 104, of McClellandtown, PA passed away at her home
on Thursday, August 22, 2024. She was born on November 16, 1919 in
Grindstone, PA daughter of the late Sarah E. and William J. Higinbotham.
She was a member of the former Lamberton Union Church, where she served as a
Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, and President of the Fayette County
Sunday School Association. She lived on the farm all of her life, working
all the farm activities alongside her husband. She will be forever
remembered for her homemade pies.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband
Arnold “Bud” Leichliter; her infant daughter Patricia Ann; infant
grandson, Daniel Savage; grandson Gerald Leichliter; infant great granddaughter,
Ashley Beth Crable; brothers, George, Samuel, Robert, and Charles Higinbotham;
sisters, Alice McCune, Maud Porter, Ruth Campbell, and Hazel McCune.
Left to cherish her memory are four children, Arnold “Bud” (Anita) Leichliter,
Donna (Donald) Savage, James (Pamela) Leichliter, and Bettie Rita (David) Crable;
grandchildren, Cindy (Bob) Schapp, Donald Savage, Jr., Darlene (Shawn) Rohlf,

Winona Ruth Snyder Higinbotham (1931-2024) PA
Winona Ruth Snyder Higinbotham, 93, of Uniontown, passed away unexpectedly,
in her home, Saturday, September 28, 2024.
She was born May 24, 1931, in Ralph, a daughter of the late Stanley W. Snyder
and Catherine Cowen Snyder.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel “Eddie”
Higinbotham; and brothers, William Stanley Snyder, Myrl Snyder and P. Robert
Snyder.
Winona was a 1950 graduate of Redstone High School.
She was a member of Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, where she served on the
Board of Deacons. Winona was a co-founder of the Christian Women’s Club of PA
and was a member of Rebecca Mon Valley Lodge.
She was an avid doll collector and had collected over 400 dolls. Winona enjoyed
sewing, quilting, ceramics and working jigsaw puzzles.
Left to keep Winona’s memory alive are her son, Mark Edward Higinbotham and wife
Pamela of Smock; daughter, Sharon Lee Higinbotham-Butchko and husband Ray of
Dunbar; and grandchildren, Eric Higinbotham, Andy Higinbotham and wife Brittany,
and Chelsea Higinbotham and husband William Porter.
